BARNSLEY
Spurlite had started to develop a new customer, H E Barnes based in Sheffield. Through general conversation, they identified that we had a lot of experience with exterior lighting installations and a good knowledge of developments where lighting was a feature of the building itself. They introduced us to the project concept that identified 3 major elements.
LED tape and extrusion was used extensively across the elements with an optical extrusion to create a wall wash effect and a deep surface extrusion producing the lines of light in the cladding. The RGB element to the Mall utilised RGB LED tape in a quadrant extrusion, this sat on a top wall plate just below the steel roof structure. A total of 9, 1200mm suspended ring luminaires provide the feature pendants, specifically sized to provide the required lux level on the Mall floor.
For the public realm area an IP67 tape mounted into a walk over extrusion was suggested to illuminate planter walls and benches. The Nesta ground recessed uplight and Jory spotlights introduced lighting to the planters themselves and to uplight trees.
A set of lighting models were created in Dialux to provide visualisation of how the scheme might look when complete. After several iterations a final design was developed and the project moved forward. In addition to the lighting Spurlite also supplied and commissioned a simple RGB lighting control system that links to a PC to allow scenes and date/time scheduling allowing the centre manager to set the colour change lighting to specific scenes to match special events.
